Abstract

The following items were discovered in the Ratsschulbibliothek and in the Stadtarchiv in Zwickau: (1) the lament Mit dem Amphion zwar mein Orgel und mein Harfe for solo voice and figured bass (SWV deest), text and music composed by Schütz in 1625 upon the death of his wife; (2) the chorale motet Ein feste Burg ist unser Gott (SWV deest), a double chorus, but fragmentary (only three out of eight voices); (3) a portrait of Schütz at the age of 42 by Augustus John (copperplate engraving); (4) the complete inventory of printed music of the Katharinaschule in Zwickau for the years 1634-61. These are described and annotated and a series of documents from various sources not previously considered revelant to Schütz's biography are appraised.
