Abstract

Both the original manuscript copy of Schütz's Auferstehungshistorie (1623), as well as two versions combining original sections of SWV 50 with newly-composed sections or sections inspired by Schütz, and a newly-composed work in which Schütz's ideas are traceable only in general terms, reflect a living tradition of ecclesiastical music in Silesia. They also give evidence, however, of a gradual transformation of style and taste that made Schütz's Auferstehungshistorie seem obsolete and therefore in need of revision.
