Abstract

Discusses two previously unexamined documents, one of them an undated autograph letter from the composer to his physician Oswald Gabelkover. The previous assumption that Lechner's family died out with the death of his son Gabriel in 1611 is now verified; regarding Lechner's musical estate, the presumably extensive Lechner holdings in Stuttgart were probably dispersed during the Thirty Years' War. The author of the texts in Deutsche Sprüche von Leben und Tod remains uncertain, though possible candidates include the poet Georg Rudolf Weckherlin, related to Lechner by marriage, and his elder brother Ludwig.
